Some of the issues I've already noticed and addressed and will slowly work on the other ones in coming days/weeks...
I'll address them in next entries seprarately.
1. Project Description
The description is unclear due to its length and lack of editing. It would also have benefited from been written in the third person affirmative rather then the first person.
2. The Aim or Rationale
The aim is ambitious and may be unrealistic. How this work will question the mainstream ideas of ‘gender roles’, of ‘femininity’ and ‘masculinity’ is unclear. The strategy of (re)staging images made by other artists as a way of dealing with this very complex subject is unresolved.
3. Anticipated Technical Skills and Requirements
This section of the proposal adds to the confusion. For example there is no reference made to video requirements, however, this appears to play a significant element of the proposal.
4. Indicative Textual and Visual References
The references do relate to the restaging aspects of the project. However, there is insufficient evidence that the topic of mainstream ideas of gender roles has been explored or researched. The lack of research and appropriate references undermine the proposal and may lead to an unresolved body of work.
5. Scale and scope of proposal
There is insufficient information and detail.
6. Potential Format or Presentation
Considering the lack of detail and focus of the proposal it is difficult to evaluate the potential format and presentation strategies. For example, how many video screens are required or the duration of each video. Where would this be exhibited and what role will audio play?
7. Evidence of testing and supporting material
The supporting material does not show sufficient evidence of testing and evaluation. Considering the aim and possible direction of the project the images are limited in scale and ambition. They do not appear to be concerned with the bigger questions of gender. There is no evidence that other genre images were investigated or considered, for example: advertisements, selfies.
